October was busy with fun and exciting things so I thought I would do a little round up of what we have been up to. I’ll split it up into 2 halves, so here is the first half of the month. After three blog posts full of photos from Yosemite, this post really doesn’t have many!
About a month ago we had a weekend booked in Huntington Beach. It’s not long since we spent a week there (you can read about it here) but waaaay back in March a friend and I came across a groupon deal for an outdoor beach cinema that was on throughout the summer. Browsing the films on offer, it had to be Top Gun! We decided to make a whole weekend of it, so booked an AirBnB for 2 nights.
Kristian ended up finishing work quite late on the Friday, so we didn’t end up getting down to the coast until late. We just got a pizza and fell asleep on the sofa watching TV. The next morning we wandered down to the beach, realising it was actually Huntington Beach Air Show. I’ve seen a lot of planes and airshows etc, and it’s not my favourite activity…. but we thought as we were there and we haven’t seen any other air shows in the USA we would stay and watch. It was on all afternoon, but the highlights included the Canadian Snowbirds (who were similar to the Red Arrows) and the Blue Angels, the US Navy ‘Precision Flying’ team (they fly VERY close to each other).
After a stop in the bar, we headed to the beach for the cinema. The sun set was setting and was a really cool place to sit back and watch a film. After a day full of planes watching Top Gun was the ideal film, it was almost as if we planned it!
The next weekend we had a music filled couple of days. Friday night we had tickets to see Coldplay at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. We’ve seen them live before, about 5 years ago, so were really looking forward to this and they didn’t disappoint. I didn’t really take any photos or videos, as I wanted to actually enjoy it for myself rather than trying to get pictures. I always find you never look back on photos or watch videos from a concert, and if you share them people aren’t really interested as there isn’t actually much to look at!
I’ll be honest, I was a bit nervous about this weekend after the tragic events of the weekend prior in Las Vegas. Horrifying and sad in so many ways, I don’t think I can put my thoughts about it into words. As so many say, you can’t let these things stop you living your life, but it can be hard to put it to the back of your mind and enjoy something.
We stayed that night in Pasadena and spent the next morning taking a little walk around the Old Town which is so nice, I can’t believe we hadn’t visited before! We had breakfast at a traditional American diner before making our way to San Bernadino for Caljam.
Caljam is a 1 day music festival which was put on by the Foo Fighters. Kristian bought me the tickets as a surprise for my birthday, as I had been so looking forward to seeing the Foo Fighters at Glastonbury a few years ago, until a couple of days before Dave Grohl broke his leg and they had to cancel. It was such a hot day, but nice to chill out and listen to music from The Kills, Liam Gallagher, Cage The Elephant, Queens of the Stone Age and of course the Foo Fighters!
It was such a great weekend, and made a change from the exploring we have been up to recently.
