I wrote last week about our camping trip for Labor Day weekend in Kernville where I mentioned we visited Silver City Ghost Town. I took quite a lot of photos, and as it was so unique and interesting I thought I would share another post with all of my pictures.
Silver City Ghost Town is in the town of Bodfish, which is near Lake Isabella in Kern County, California. If you are ever in that area, visiting Sequoia National Forest, the Kern River or Lake Isabella it is definitely worth a visit.
There were lots of mining camps in this area, and the family behind Silver City rescued a lot of the original buildings before they were due to be destroyed and turned this spot into a museum. The buildings have been preserved and restored to the state they would have been when the miners deserted the area. It is also used as a film set and photography location – you can see why! It feels like you walked into a Western movie.
The buildings consist of a general store, post office, saloon bar, a bank and even a jail, alongside some miners houses. I’m a bit of a history geek so this was the perfect way to spend a morning!
