Cayucos and Pismo Beach, California Central Coast

I wrote yesterday about Morro Bay, the first part of our trip to the California Central Coast. The 2nd day we headed up the PCH Highway 1 to the next town up the coast, Cayucos.

I had read that the town was small, laid back and that there were no chain stores or fast food restaurants which definitely appealed to us. We went there first thing and spent some time on the dog friendly beach, trying to tire Charlie out a bit!

After a little wander through the town, a few samples of the famous Brown Butter Cookie Company and a little coffee stop, we got back on the road and headed south to Pismo Beach.

Pismo Beach is somewhere we stayed for a night when we did out whistle stop west coast trip 5 years ago, but we really didn’t see much as we arrived late and left early. When we realised how close we were on this trip we had to go check it out again. I realised we didn’t actually see any of the town on our previous trip.

It’s a lot bigger than Morro Bay and Cayucos, and has a totally different feel to it again. It does feel more like a traditional seaside town than the others, with more shops, bars restaurants etc. I think the visitors here are slightly younger too. But it’s also very doggy friendly!

We walked up the pier and watched the surfers, before finding a BBQ style restaurant for lunch.
