Happy Sunday! I hope you have had a lovely week. I revived this blog when we moved out to California last year, and I’ve been using it to document our trips and places we’ve travelled to. Like an online memory book for us to look back on. We have done so much already! But I also want to write about the little memories too. Those things that don’t necessarily warrant a blog post, but make up the life we are building out here. I want to share a bit of the highs and lows of everyday life too.
I’ve thought for a while about how I’d like to do this and I really love to read ‘life lately’ and ‘weekend edit’ types of posts so thought I’d try it out. To be honest I do worry that sometimes there really won’t be anything to write about, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it! Hopefully you will enjoy reading a little bit about everyday life here, so I’ll start with what we’ve been up to this week.
I may as well start here! After our trip to Utah I had hundreds of photos to go through and a few blog posts to write up. You can read about skiing in Park City here and our day trip to Salt Lake City here. I also realised I have thousands of photos on my laptop (mainly of the dog…) so I’ve been bit by bit going through them and trying to organise/delete a lot.
When we moved here I used a website called Dog Vacay to find a dog sitter for Charlie. It’s basically a website where you can register as a dog sitter in your own home. We’ve got quite a bit of space and Charlie loves company, so I signed up. I’ve had a couple of dogs to stay so far and it’s a nice way to earn a few pennies. Last weekend my friend asked if I would have her Cocker Spaniel, Bramble, for a few days. She’s a lovely little dog and it was a nice sunny day so I got my camera out to take some pictures of Bramble and Charlie playing.
Shopping for Garden Furniture
The weather is starting to get a bit warmer and I think we’ll really make the most of our outdoor space this spring/summer so we spent a few evenings this week looking at garden furniture. It’s probably one of the last big things we need for the house. We didn’t have any in the UK, so we wanted to invest in something we could take back when we move. We’ve ended up ordering a gorgeous dining table and chairs from Target, as well as a set of 2 big comfier chairs with a small table. We’ve also got some outdoor festoon lights and would like get a few more bits like an outdoor rug and cushions etc. When it’s all arrived and set up I’ll take some pictures and write a post about our outdoor area.
Since moving out here I’ve really got into going to the gym. It started off as something to do, to get out of the house everyday, but I actually really enjoy it. I tend to do a few spin classes a week and maybe another class or a swim, or some time in the actual gym. I’ve also been to yoga which I try to do once a week.
And then there is running… I’ve always hated running but it’s one of those things I don’t want to let beat me! I’ve signed up to a 5k in March with some friends so really needed to get out and practice. I met up with a friend who is a great runner and she gave me lots of motivation. I’m starting to feel more positive about running than I ever have, so we’ve got some more run dates planned in before our 5k. I know the distance really isn’t far at all, but for me right now it is a challenge. I’m fairly fit, but don’t feel it when I run!
On Friday night we decided to get out of the house and went to the cinema. There are quite a few cinemas near us, which is novel as in the UK we lived in a very remote place, so a trip to the cinema was a big thing. There is a cinema in the next city to us with comfy lazy boy style chairs and pizza and nachos delivered to your seat. Oh and wine – perfect! We went to see Hidden Figures. We both absolutely loved it, I’d highly recommend it. One of the best films I’ve seen for a long time. I love a film based on a true story and it was something I knew nothing about. It was so inspiring!
Last night (Saturday) we were invited to a friends house along with a few other couples for curry. It was so nice to spend the evening with new friends we have made out here, we had a lovely time, and a little bit too much to drink. I’ve been suffering today and my healthy eating definitely suffered a hit with a lunch trip to In N Out burger!!
So this post is pretty long, sorry about that! I fear I’ve been rambling a bit, but hopefully I’ll improve on that as I write more of them. Let me know what you think of this new style of post and if you’ve enjoyed reading it. I hope so!
