A Day In Hollywood

Earlier this week the sun promised to shine, so I decided to make the most of it and took my mum to Hollywood for the afternoon. It’s one of those places that is so iconic you can’t visit LA and not go.

Kristian and I have been before, and to be totally honest were a little disappointed. I’m not too sure what we expected, maybe something a bit like what you would see in Vegas perhaps? But like I said, it’s iconic so I had to take my mum. I actually preferred it this time… what I had in my head from last time we went wasn’t completely what it was like.

I think it helped that the sun was shining. It’s mid January and we’ve had some pretty awful weather recently (for Southern California…) but it felt like a summers day with blue skies and it was actually warm!

We headed to the Dolby theatre (where they host the Oscars) which is actually in the Hollywood and Highland Center shopping mall. I don’t know about you, but I just didn’t expect it to be in a mall?! There is a spot where you can get good views of the Hollywood sign so we went up there to take a few pictures.

We took a lot of pictures of the stars along the walk of fame, I’ve included a few below. Interestingly the Donald Trump one has been defaced. We walked up to Grauman’s Chinese theatre and had fun spotting the footprints and handprints outside the front.

After browsing the tacky souvenir shops, mum and I went for lunch in a typical American restaurant, Hooters! The food was ok, the usual American grease… I’m not sure I’d head back but at least we tried it.
