Devils Punchbowl is an area of the Angeles National Forest, along the San Andreas Fault. It’s about a 45 minute drive from we live, so ideal for an afternoon visit with the pooch on a cold November weekend.
There are a few different loops and trails around the area, which is famous for it’s geology. I don’t know much about rocks at all, but it was actually really interesting, as well as good to get some fresh mountain air. The strange uptilted rock formations have been squeezed that way by ongoing action and pressure along the faults.
When I was young I used to think that if you went to a fault line, there would be a huge crack in the ground… Then I found out there wasn’t, so to see this was actually pretty cool. It’s kind of the opposite to a huge crack, but still fascinating!
Plus Charlie had a great time running around.
